Queen of Da Souf This Atlanta rapper immediately got a contract after winning a TV competition as a youngster and began garnering recognition for her clever rhymes and seamless flair. Latto broke through to a larger audience with her 2019 song “B*tch from Da Souf” and her first full studio album, 2024’s Queen of Da Souf, after releasing numerous mixtapes.

Latto was born Alyssa Michelle Stephens in 1998 on Atlanta’s south side, where she began rapping at the age of 10. Miss Mulatto was her stage name when she initially came out as multiracial, having a Black father and a white mother. Stephens built a large local following before debuting on TV by playing at different events, opening for other artists, and engaging on social media.

Stephens joined the cast of the Lifetime reality rap program The Rap Game, which was produced by Queen Latifah and Jermaine Dupri, when he was 16 years old. Latto was named the champion of The Rap Game after an eight-week boot camp-style tournament in which she battled against four other wannabe rappers. She got a recording deal with So So Def Recordings, led by Jermaine Dupri, and released the song “No More Talking” as a result of her victory.

Before the year was through, the rapper released an eight-song self-titled album. She changed her stage name to Latto shortly after and started working on new songs. On the Latto Let ‘Em Know mixtape, a lengthier release that featured guest appearances from Bandit Gang Marco, Lil Key, and Molly Brazzy, her approach became bolder and more self-assured in 2017.

She followed up with a self-titled ten-song mixtape the following year. In 2019, the rapper released two EPs, the first of which was Big Latto. The track “B*tch from Da Souf” from the EP became her greatest hit to date. The song was streamed millions of times as a single. Hit the Latto, her second EP, was released in November 2019.

She then signed with RCA Records and released her first full-length album, Queen of Da Souf, in August 2024. Gucci Mane, City Girls, 21 Savage, and others had guest appearances on the album, which featured the single “B*tch from Da Souf.” She officially changed her stage name to Latto in May of 2024.
