He was originally renowned for performing traditional country music, particularly bluegrass, but after the death of his brother, Delmer Isaacs, in 1970, he shifted his focus to gospel music.
Isaacs established a band with his wife, Lily, called the Calvary Mountain Boys, which subsequently became known as Sacred Bluegrass, with the latter group appearing frequently on Ohio television. The Isaacs were the Isaacs’ three children, Ben, Becky, and Sonya, who formed the band in 1988. John Bowman (Becky’s husband), Tim Surrett (Sonya’s husband), Adam Steffey, and Rickie Simpkins have all been members of the band. ‘I Found It All In The Blood,’ ‘Is This Not The Land Of Beulah,’ ‘From The Depths Of My Heart,’ ‘Wayfaring Stranger,’ ‘Reaping In The Spirit,’ and ‘Family Chain’ were among the group’s repertoire.
Joe and Lily Isaacs were elected into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in the mid-90s, and Bridges received a Dove Award for Bluegrass Album Of The Year in 1998. The Isaacs separated towards the end of the decade, and Joe embarked on a solo career, which was cut short in 2003 when he had open-heart surgery.
